UK Coastline Fundraising Ride
Bob’s Story
Around the UK coast in a clockwise direction…
WHO AM I?
My name is Bob Sands. I’m 69 and about to retire after a career spent pioneering sustainable cleaning solutions for global industry. I’ve also been a motorcyclist for 55 years and have ridden more than 350,000 miles. Over the years I’ve enjoyed commuting, touring across Europe and the USA, as well as motocross, trials, flat track, track days and plenty more besides.
Why we’ve chosen Mental Health Motorbike
WHAT AM I DOING?
On 9 May 2026, I will set off from Woolwich on a journey of approximately 6,000 miles, following the coastal roads of the UK in a clockwise direction. The route will include Anglesey, the Isle of Man, Arran, the Isle of Mull and the Isle of Skye, before finishing back in Woolwich on 26 June.
WHY AM I DOING IT?
Mental illness, including suicide, has touched my family. As I approach retirement, this ride feels like a mindful and meaningful way to mark the start of the next chapter of my life. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for those affected by mental health issues. I have chosen to support Mental Health Motorbike because it reflects both my passion for motorcycling and my desire to help challenge the stigma surrounding mental health.
